Elon Musk is known for tackling big challenges—sending cars into space, revolutionizing electric vehicles, and maybe, just maybe, reimagining how our government operates. With a new administration pledging to sweep away bureaucratic cobwebs, the buzz is that the IRS might be next on the chopping block. Bold claim or pipe dream? Let’s dive into this intriguing possibility.
Think of the IRS as an outdated 1980s computer trying to run Netflix. It's clunky, confusing, and often ineffective. Congress creates laws, but the IRS is left to interpret them—kind of like handing a contractor a child’s crayon drawing of a house and saying, “Build this.” The result? Mass confusion, analysis paralysis, and a system that’s lost in translation.
Donna Bordeaux of Calculated Moves argues that instead of slapping duct tape on a broken system, it’s time to start fresh. Imagine a government saying, “No taxes for three years while we rebuild!” Outlandish? Sure. But it could be cheaper and more effective than clinging to outdated methods.
Musk is no stranger to radical ideas, and his track record shows he’s got the chops to rethink failing systems. Could he really take on the IRS and rebuild it for the modern era? If he can send rockets to Mars, maybe fixing taxes isn’t so far-fetched.
Whether the IRS is revamped, scrapped, or duct-taped once more, one thing is clear: change is overdue. If Elon (or anyone else) tackles this beast, it could redefine how we think about taxes, efficiency, and accountability.
What do you think? Should the IRS be burned down and rebuilt, or is this just another unicorn dream? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

They have over 50 years of combined experience as entrepreneurial CPAs. They’ve owned businesses and helped business owners exceed their wildest dreams.
